[Mocksville, NC]—Davie County is pleased to announce the appointment of Derrick Wold as the new Library Director. After an interview team spent time assessing qualified applicants, all unanimously selected Mr. Wold. Through his proven record of military service, academic excellence and dedication to the Davie County Library System, the interview panel found him to be the best candidate for the position.
"Mr. Wold is inquisitive and will expand the library services with innovative ideas. He shows sincere interest in the library employees and will excel as the new Director of the Davie County Public Library," said Dr. Regina Graham, Library Board of Trustees.
Wold has more than 15 years of combined management experience from his service in the Marine Corps, and as a field supervisor in the construction industry before obtaining his educational degrees. After he finished his military service, Mr. Wold obtained his Associates Degree at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College as a full-time student, while concurrently working full-time in construction. He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
After receiving his BA in History, Mr. Wold continued his education and obtained his Master’s Degree in Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He later obtained his North Carolina State Library Certification. Mr. Wold has worked in library systems for almost 8 years and has been employed this past year with Davie County as the Adult Services and Technology Librarian. Additionally, he is a member of the American Library Association and the North Carolina Library Association.
He will be following in the footsteps of Jane Blue as she vacates the position. Blue and her husband are moving to Virginia where she will have the opportunity to finish out her career as Director of a non-profit library in Northumberland County. Their plan was always to retire in the Virginia area among family and friends and this opportunity presented a bit earlier than planned. "Mr. Wold’s confidence and ability to see the big picture make him well suited for the Library Director position," said Blue. "His mastery of technology, coupled with the desire to move the library forward, is an asset to the county and will serve the citizens well. He is a team leader who will motivate staff, look to the future while preserving the past, and provide innovative programming that will benefit our patrons."
Wold is walking into this new role with the support from many community members, librarians and those who have held the role before him.
"I am excited for Mr. Wold to move into the library director position. In his time with the library, he has demonstrated the ability to learn quickly, adapted and contributed to a changing environment, built good working relationships with staff and patrons, and assisted with many administrative functions of the library," said Jane McAllister, former Library Director. "His leadership experience in the military and library make him well suited to take on the responsibilities of the director position. Derrick will be committed to our library and community."
Wold will be excellent with leading the team at the Davie County Library and our library patrons. "Mr. Wold is a proven leader with integrity. He is approachable, cares about staff and patrons, and wants to maintain the quality services that our library is known for. Mr. Wold values collaboration, is forward-thinking, applies best practice, and will partner with stakeholders to further the goals of our library system. He will serve Davie County well in his new role," said John Eller, County Manager.
