Mocksville, NC (August 6, 2019) - On July 3, 2019, Davie County Emergency Services, along with Farmington Fire Department and Davie County Rescue Squad, responded to a call of a drowning 3-year-old, but when they arrived, 16-year-old Zander Freeman had already jumped into the pool and revived his young nephew who had started crying (a good sound to hear). At the Board of Commissioners meeting on August 5, 2019, EMS Chief Joseph Asburn presented a commendation on behalf of Davie Emergency Services to the young hero.
The 3-year-old has recovered but without the brave assistance of his uncle would not be here today. The commendation/certificate was presented to Zander in recognition of his bravery and for jumping into the pool to rescue his nephew. Emergency Services has also offered to sponsor Zander in getting his EMS certificate should he chose that as a career field.
