Senior Center activities kicked off April with a bang! Senior Services started the month with April Fools Bingo! This event was fabulous and was sponsored by Kintegra Family Medicine. A group of volunteers from Kintegra came to the event, called out the bingo game, and enjoyed visiting with each of the participants. The grand prizes consisted of four invertible umbrellas! Bingo will be back before you know it on May 10, sponsored by Ellis & Newsome PLLC.
On Monday, April 4, Susan Hawkins from the Davie Co-Operative Extension visited Senior Services and shared important information about Container and Small Space Gardening. Hawkins has a wealth of knowledge and was able to share information about what to do if you’re trying to grow plants on your apartment balcony or in a small area. She even suggested different varieties of bush plants that you can find that grow in containers and are easily transferred inside during the winter months.
The first Tuesday of each month means that it is time for Blood Pressure Screenings. If you have questions or need to have your blood pressure checked, be sure to swing by Senior Services at 10:00 AM on the first Tuesday of each month. This month, Blood Pressure Screenings were completed on Tuesday, April 5 by retired nurse and volunteer, Linda Felts.
The first Thursday of each month brings author, Marie Craig, to Senior Services for the Senior Writing Group. This group focuses on improving writing and allows for discussion about writings in order to engage in conversations that can lead you in the correct direction with your writing piece. This group has a lot of good times and would love to have you join them each month.
To close out the beginning of April, Senior Services held their annual Easter Party. The party featured a great game of Easter Trivia and pictures with Michael Cottontail, the resident Easter Bunny. The party consisted of a fun vegetable tray that resembled a bunny along with a cheese tray that looked like a carrot. Additional snacks were chicken nuggets, bunny bait, and mixed nuts plus a delicious cup of Cheerwine Punch. The table centerpieces featured wooden block bunnies made by Emily Miller. This party was so fun and well enjoyed by all that participated.
