Tennis Balls & Horseshoes Fly!
This week, Senior Games had a great time. Tuesday, April 19, three excellent Tennis players enjoyed a brisk morning of Tennis Doubles! Carrie Miller, Senior Games Co-Coordinator, filled in as the 4th person so that a doubles match could be played. The morning was filled with joyful laughs and great fellowship and sportsmanship from everyone that participated!
Wednesday, April 20, was time for the 2022 Men’s Horseshoes tournament at the Cooleemee Recreation Center. The men played a great set of games and pitched horseshoes to the best of their ability! The horseshoes were flying and the scores were great.
Following the men, on April 21, the ladies took over the horseshoe pits and had several competitions between the age groups. The sportsmanship was fantastic and everyone celebrated each other when they were able to get a ringer! At this event, Food Lion 601 South employees volunteered to score the events and enjoyed the morning with the Senior Games ladies. They were a fantastic help, and Senior Services appreciates all they did to keep the event running smoothly so that multiple games could happen at one time.
Senior Services would like to give a special shout out and thank you to the Town of Cooleemee and Aaron Thies for allowing Senior Games to use the Horseshoe pits each year for this event and for ensuring the safety and upkeep of the horseshoe pit areas.
In other news, Senior Games does have an opportunity for both men and women’s basketball and softball teams. If there is interest in joining a team, please contact Carrie Miller at Senior Services. If teams were to form now, then Davie County Senior Games would be able to play in the season next year after a year of practice. This is a wonderful opportunity that is available – all it takes is participation from the fantastic people in Davie County!
Senior Games is all about empowering others! Senior Services would love to have you join the Senior Games program! If you have any questions about Senior Games, give Senior Services a call at 336-753-6230!
