DAVIE COUNTY, NC – Visitors and employees at the Davie County Government Center on Farmington Road in Mocksville now have a tasty option for snacks during the workday or when seeking county services.
Monarch’s New Horizons, a day program which serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Mocksville, now operates New Horizons Snack Shop at the Davie County Government Center.
The Snack Shop opening will be celebrated with prizes, giveaways, and free popcorn from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 at the Davie County Government Center.
The New Horizons Snack Shop is open 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (Monday-Thursday) and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Friday) in the Government Center. A variety of snacks, popcorn and beverages are available for sale. New Horizons Snack Shop will initially employ two people supported by Monarch as well as a professional Monarch employee.
Sharon Burns, Monarch’s Director of Program Operations who supervises the new Snack Shop, said the new endeavor is an important component of assisting individuals to reach their personal and professional goals, as well as experiencing inclusion within their community.
“Some people we work with dream of having something that they are working for, not given to them, and they own it," Burns said. “They feel valued and validated by taking on the same roles and responsibilities as other people.”
