The last few months have meant exciting events and activities for Senior Services!
During January, Senior Services held their first poetry contest! The poetry contest winner was Mrs. Julie Cartner with “A Cacophony of Noise.”
At the end of February, Senior Services hosted the Senior Games kickoff event at the Davie County Community Park. The participants were able to get out of their vehicles one at a time to play a round of mini golf, shoot basketballs, play horseshoes, take their chance at archery, and color a picture to represent the SilverArts component. During the day, Senior Services tallied points and Steve Evans was the winner of the Senior Games Fun Day event. The weather was gorgeous, and Senior Services is so happy to be able to host the 28th Season of Davie County Senior Games and SilverArts beginning on April 6 for those pre-registered.
February 26 closed out Senior Services’ first ever knitting contest. This contest was designed to get into the SilverArts spirit. First place winner was Dr. Danny Cartner with “The Order of the Phoenix” blanket, followed by Ms. Reba Holt with second place, and Mrs. Judy Phillips with third place.
March started off with a round of honking for Car Bingo! Senior Services’ parking lot filled with cars for the 2nd installment of Car Bingo for the year. There was a total of 39 participants, and the event was sponsored by Local Government Federal Credit Union. LeeAnna Lott from LGFCU was able to come to Senior Services and call out the Bingo game. The final round of Bingo was an exciting one – the door prize was a collapsible cooler from LGFCU and participants had to fill their card to win. Winners of the door prize were Ray Evans, Doris Hinsdale, and Elizabeth Vines. Car Bingo will be held again on Tuesday, May 4, and Darryl Bandy State Farm Insurance will be sponsoring the event.
March continued on with a seminar from Novant Health. Senior Services welcomed registered dietician Krista Kiger with a wonderful presentation on Diabetes and Nutrition. The seminars will be quarterly with Novant Health. Services also welcomed EMS Director, Brian Byrd, for the annual Disaster Preparedness Seminar where participants learned what to do during a natural disaster. All seminars offered through Senior Services are open to adults of all ages.
On March 11, Senior Services held a birthday party for all participants born in March. They came through the drive thru and were greeted with cupcakes and ice cream to celebrate their important day. Each month, there is a birthday party for participants born in that month. The participants must be 55 or older and register for the party beforehand.
To finish out March, Senior Services held a drive thru St. Patrick’s Day coloring sheet pickup and their second installation of Craft from Your Car: Bunny Magnet edition. These activities are all open to participants 55 and older. The Easter Party will be March 30 from 1:00-1:30 PM at Senior Services for those 55 and older that have pre-registered for the event. Please be sure to check out the Senior Services calendar in the Dateline section of the Enterprise and remember to register for the events if something of interest catches your eye!
