Notary Public Information

INITIAL NOTARY APPOINTMENT:

In North Carolina, before being appointed a Notary Public, applicants must complete a Secretary of State approved course of instruction which are often offered at local community colleges and technical institutes.  Upon completion and passing the course, an application will be provided to the individual with instructions for completing the application and mailing it to the North Carolina Secretary of State's Office. The fee for a notary application is $50 and must accompany the application. Then, after being notified by the Secretary of State, applicants must appear before the Register of Deeds in his or her home county to take a Notary Public Oath and pay the associated fees. The fee for administering a notary oath in Davie County is $10.  We accept cash and checks only. No appointment is needed.

NOTARY RE-APPOINTMENT:

Visit the North Carolina Secretary of State's website (http://www.sosnc.gov/divisions/notary) for current information on notary re-commissioning.  After receiving notification from the Secretary of State's office, applicants for re-appointment must appear before the Register of Deeds in the county in which the commission is issued within 45 days from the issue date.  Applicants will be required to take the Notary Public Oath and pay the associated fees. The fee for administering a notary oath in Davie County is $10.  We accept cash and checks only. No appointment is needed.

CHANGE OF NAME OR ADDRESS:

A Notary Public must notify the North Carolina Secretary of State of a name or address change by completing a change form and mailing it to the address located on the form.  Upon receiving approval of the change from the North Carolina Secretary of State, the Notary Public must appear before the Register of Deeds in the county in which the commission is issued, retake the Notary Public Oath, and pay the associated fees. The fee for administering a notary oath in Davie County is $10.  We accept cash and checks only. No appointment is needed.

NOTARY AUTHENTICATIONS:

A Notary Authentication may be requested from our office certifying an individual was a valid Davie County Notary at the time an oath or  acknowledgment was taken.  We do not charge for this service.
