Davie County Welcomes New Fire Marshal

Davie County welcomed Mr. Bill Butler as Davie County Fire Marshal on March 12, 2018.  Butler’s caliber and previous experience is second to none and the community is fortunate to retain someone with this skill set.  A fire services veteran, Mr. Butler has 38 years of service as a volunteer fire fighter, 31 of which he was also a career fire fighter.  His experiences include both suburban and rural firefighting for which he rose through the ranks to become a Fire Chief.  While Mr. Butler has experience as a fire fighter, he also has served as a Hazmat Tech, Lieutenant, and Captain. He retired last year with 23 years of service at the New York City Fire Department.  Mr. Butler brings a great deal of knowledge to the job and is an instructor in subjects that include Engine and Truck Company Operations, Rural Water Supply, and Fire Fighter Survival/Rescue.

Butler will report to Brian Byrd, Davie County’s Emergency Management Coordinator.  "As we collectively look to the future, I am confident that with the addition of Mr. Butler as our County Fire Marshal, he and Mr. Byrd have the technical, management and interpersonal skills to lead the County’s Fire, Emergency Management Coordination, and Emergency Medical Services, while partnering with our key stakeholders,” said County Manager, John Eller.
