It is the mission of Davie County Senior Services to provide seniors with accessible services and opportunities for fellowship, fun, and learning through activities and programs that enrich lives.

Help Healthy Davie meet their challenge of Davie County residents taking 1 billion steps in 100 days.  Senior Services has many opportunities for you to get your steps in.  Click here to register for the challenge.  Older adults who need help can come by Senior Services and we will make sure you are signed up.

TAX AIDE

Tax returns are prepared and e-filed by trained and certified volunteer AARP tax counselors.  There is no cost to the taxpayer.  Returns are filled out Fridays & Saturdays from 9:00 - 1:00 starting Feb. 3.  Click here to see details regarding time, appointments etc.



WELCOME TO MEDICARE


Friday, March 17 - 10:00am - 12:00 pm
If you will be eligible for Medicare soon, learn about the many options available so you can make the choices that are right for you.  A light lunch will follow the program. Open to anyone who will soon be on Medicare.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

CROP TILL YOU DROP


Saturday, March 18 - 9:00am - 3:00pm
All scrappers are invited to bring your supplies and have some fun. For six hours we will scrapbook, give away door prizes, play some fun games and have some snacks. Come for the whole day, or just part, whatever suits your schedule.  Open to the community of all ages.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

MONTHLY MOVIE 


Monday, March 20 @ 1:00pm
Each month we will show a movie. Of course there will be popcorn. To learn the title, call Senior Services on or after the Tuesday prior to the movie date. Open to those 55 & older. RSVP to 336-753-6230.

SENIOR BOOK CLUB 


Tuesday, March 21 @ 1:30pm 
Leader: Genny Hinkle 
At each meeting you will discuss the book that was read the month before and receive the new book to read. Books are provided at no charge. Co-sponsored by the Davie County Public Library. Open to those 55 and older. RSVP to 336-753-6230.

Do you have a passion for crafting? Bring your handwork / portable project and join this fun group for a time to share, fellowship and craft together making projects to give to those in need.

LINE DANCE WORKSHOP


Friday, March 24 - 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Instructor:  Brenda Holcomb
Cost:  $5.00 (pay directly to the instructor)
Brenda is a professional line dance instructor who will teach you steps to enhance your skills.  This class is open to any level - beginner or advanced.  You do not need to be a participant of a current line dancing class in order to attend.  Open to adults 55 and older.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.


THEATRE CLUB


Tuesday, March 28 @ 1:00pm
This group meets once a month to discuss various theatrical options in the area and to choose different plays and performances to attend as a group.  Each person pays for their own ticket.  Open to those 55 & older.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

WALK IN THE PARK DAY WITH OR WITHOUT THE GRANDKIDS


Thursday, March 30 @ 2:30pm - Rich Park
Join us for "National Take a Walk in the Park Day".  We will meet at Rich Park in front of the baseball field and walk the trails.  Feel free to bring your grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. or come on your own.  Those who don't wish to walk can enjoy the afternoon on the playground or under the shelter.  Light, healthy snacks will be served at the conclusion of the walk.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

ROCK-A-THON


Friday, March 31 - 5:00 - 8:00pm
For four hours Rock-a-Teers will rock in rocking chairs. There will be non-stop music, entertainment, games and giveaways troughout the event.  Rock-a-Teers will recruit sponsors to sponsor their time rocking.  Anyone in the community can attend.  A food truck will be available from which to purchase food.  All proceeds go to Senior Services. BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS

WATER AEROBICS CLASS


Tuesdays & Thursdays, April 4 - May 11 - 2:30pm - 3:30pm - Davie Family YMCA
Cost:  $20 for a 6 week class
We are excited to be able to offer Water Aerobics classes at the Davie Family YMCA. You will pay the YMCA directly for your portion of the the cost. Senior Services will cover the remainder of the cost of these classes.  You must pre-register through Senior Services, not the YMCA.  Open to adults 55 and older only who are not members of the YMCA.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

SENIOR GAMES OPENING CEREMONIES & LUNCH


Thursday, April 6 @ 12:30pm
Open to those who are paid participants of Senior Games/SilverArts.  This kickoff will include a few short remarks, lunch & handing out of t-shirts.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

SATURDAY MORNING BREAKFAST


Saturday, April 8 @ 9:30am
Adults 55 and older and their guests of any age are invited to a great breakfast.  You may bring any number of guests, but anyone under 55 must be a guest of someone 55 or older.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

UNRAVEL THE MYSTERY OF DEPRESSION


Monday, April 10 @ 10:45am
Facilitator:  Melissa Welch, MSW, LCSWA, Encompass Home Health
Join us for an energetic and interactive seminar.  You will learn what depression is, how it impacts a person's life and some helpful coping skills for yourself or a friend or family member.  Open to adults of all ages - no children, please.  RSVP to 336-753-6230.

GOT PLANS? ADVANCE CARE PLANNING WORKSHOP

We plan for college, marriage, a baby and retirement, but we don't prepare for the end of life. Let's change that! Representatives will be on hand to take care of everything you need to complete your advance care directives. Bring a photo ID. RSVP to 336-753-6230.

EASTER PARTY

ALZHEIMERS' SUPPORT GROUP 


Tuesday, April 11 @ 6:30pm 
This group is open to any age. It is intended for those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other dementia but is open to any caregiver that can benefit. Meetings may consist of sharing time and/or guest speakers. This group is offered in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Association. Please call no later than the Friday before the meeting to let us now you will be coming. Meetings will be canceled if not enough interest is shown. RSVP to 336-753-6230.
